The 10 story red-brick extension, which was designed by architects Herzog + de Meuron, is one of the most ambitious architectural projects in London in recent years.

At a recent press event, Lord Browne, Former BP boss, thanked the many anonymous donors who contributed £260m for the Tate’s extension.

Lasting until the 19th June, The Tate, in connection with sponsor, Uniqlo, will be hosting a three-day celebration showcasing the very best of Tate; all for free and open to everyone, celebrating the new opening.

On Friday night there will be a special late-night event curated by young people from Tate Collective London. The focus of the night will be digital technology x lo-fi materials, providing guests with a range of interactive activities and installations made by emerging artists. Radar Radio will provide the music as part of special audio-visual display.

There will be many events running all throughout the weekend, such as: a choral work with over 500 singers, unique song cycles written for the Tate Modern’s new building, and film and video works from Tate’s archive collection which will be on display in the newly refurbished Starr Cinema.

Also watch out for BMW Tate Live performances which will emerge when you least expect.
